Links
There are two kinds of links we share with you below. On the left we list web sites that are useful to use when dealing with the internet. On the right we provide news, current affairs and analyses sources.
Using the Internet
Tiny URL
Dealing with very long web addresses can be annoying. Tiny URL will shorten any address to something sensible for sharing in emails in particular. Be sure to follow their instructions so that you have it as a easy to access bookmark in your browser to immediately convert the address of a page you are viewing.
Google
It sort of seems pointless listing this doesn't it? Be sure to ferret around beyond their basic search tool. There is a lot of stuff going on.
Sources of News, Opinion and Analysis
The easy way.
Each week day morning, Chris Wallace serves us a big bowl of Breakfast Politics, full of direct links to political articles in the popular press, people in parliament and political polling percentages.
The not so easy way
Go to each masthead and click, click, click. Hopefully you'll be done by lunch time and not missed anything.
To the left...
Green Left Weekly
is an independent voice, that aims to cover news and ideas that the mainstream won't, and actively campaigns on issues such as anti-racism, feminism, trade unionism, etc.
NewMatilda.com
is an independent website of news, opinion and analysis.
To the right...
News Weekly
News Weekly has been published continuously by the National Civic Council since 1941, and was originally called Freedom.
To the pedestal!
Crikey
is an independent online media service for people who want the inside gossip, who want to give the inside gossip or who want to find out if they are the subject of gossip. Not part of a media empire...
Off with the pixies..
There are some examples deserving of membership to this subsection, but we hesitate to list them. As you can appreciate the kinds of links a website has will affect it's rankings and categorisations within search engines.
Whatever... as long as it sells newspapers
The Sydney Morning Herald
A broadsheet tabloid that enjoys repackaging news feeds. You are better off reading The Daily Telegraph, which has funnier headlines and is a proper tabloid.
The Daily Telegraph
Good headlines, really quick & easy to read and they offer money in the footy tipping competitions. But you always feel hungry again within half an hour
The Australian
Murdoch's quality broadsheet for Australia... 'nough said.
