The last person to be sentenced to death in Scotland was Patrick McCarron. He was sentenced to death in 1964 for fatally shooting his wife. Britain abandoned the death penalty and ... Mr McCarron hanged himself in prison in 1970.

The world's oldest cartoonists' organisation was founded in Australia.

The Australian Black and White Artists' Society was founded on the 17th of July, 1924, by a group of cartoonists meeting in a room in the Royal Arcade, Sydney

The society soon became a club and then in 2000, it formally changed it's name to the Australian Cartoonists' Association.
